CGI MODELLING ARTWORK

EXCELSIOR STUDY MODEL 1 In Star Trek III: The Search For Spock we get to see the latest and greatest starship of the time - Excelsior Class. But in creating the model which became the Excelsior prototype, the Art Department went through several design phases, incorporating a number of study models that didn't quite cut it in the end. So this is a new project of mine: to build some of these models. These Excelsior study models have appeared in canon though. This first one, a speculative 4 nacelle design, appeared in TNG's 'Unification', adrift in the Qualor II Surplus Depot. It's also quite possible it featured in the Wolf 359 graveyard scene, though it's presence there has not been confirmed. So it's at least possible this design was carried forward and used in a later class, it just wasn't called Excelsior Class. So I speculate that this ship was an early transwarp test bed, one that obviously didn't take off as it was eventually dropped when the final Excelsior failed to have any success with the technology.

I'm currently working on a fairly large scale animation that chiefly involves this ship. It's set during the time of her estimated initial construction, somewhere around the late 2260's, early 2270's.
The way I've modelled it (in proportion to the actual Excelsior) it comes in at 482M long.
