CGI MODELLING ARTWORK
|
|
Arghh! This is a ship I've occasionally worked on for some time now. I never managed to finish it, simply because of my inability to model it to my satisfaction. The problem is, that the Galaxy Class (along with the Constitution) is certainly one of Trek's, and indeed sci-fi's most familiar and well known ships. So to build a good model that will stand up to close scrutiny, it has to be perfect. And this is the problem I've had. You see, to model something with such smooth and organic shape and form, like the Galaxy Class, you need to perfect a modelling technique called Spline Patching. The basics are certainly quite easy, but more advanced Patching takes a little more time and patience. And hence, my results from Spline Patching the Galaxy Class have not been up to standard. If I don't think it's smooth and flawless, then it's not good enough to be here. Granted, I've got a number of old models on the site which are poor in comparison to my latest stuff, but that doesn't excuse sub-standard work at my current level of expertise. Anyway, I've done the best I can do with this, for now, so here's a few test renders. She's hardly finished, barely begun in fact. There are no windows on the underside of the secondary hull yet, and the saucer is a redressed Nebula saucer (a short cut I can possibly get away with after a little more tweaking...)
In basic terms, I want it good enough to include in animations...
It's no where near adequate yet, but constructing a high detail model such as this is a time consuming process...I haven't even begun to think about textures yet.
That's all for now, more when I can...
The latest.... Having some texturing trouble, but it's coming along slowly.
Very brief update - corrected a few problems with the secondary hull. Still some way to go though..
