CGI MODELLING ARTWORK
NEBULA CLASS (Variant III) Also known as the 'Proto-Nebula', this class was a weird Nebula kitbash which supposedly portrayed the USS Melbourne (the second such named ship) in the Wolf 359 graveyard scene. A model of the ship was created (altered) for this, and later Captain Sisko had such a model sitting on a shelf in his office. A photo of this is below. What precisely the second set of smaller nacelles does is a mystery. The only ship which has a similar feature is the Prometheus prototype. This had two further nacelles that came into action in multi-vector assault mode, this one presumes, was intended to keep the central section in a warp field when the ship was at warp, which indeed happened in Voyager's 'Message in a Bottle'.
My existing Nebula model had to undergo a series of alterations to complete this variant. Firstly the saucer had another two rows of windows made, and the secondary hull for this one had to be redone as it's a totally different shape.
...I may do some further renders of it in the future.
