Standard Cruiser used exclusively by Section 31, and is deployed as a patrol vehicle and transporter of personnel and supplies, but it must be noted that this class ship has very much out of date specs, for the above stats would most likely be far in advance of the 2359 standings... A vessel of the Chameleon Class utilises a unique 'split shift transporter', allowing the safe and instantaneous transit through contracted layers of folded space. One device can transport an object or person many hundreds of times further than a tradition transporter, with little chance of detection. Larger and more powerful split shift units can propel a person up to several light years. It is postulated that all Classified Classes may in fact uses these systems, based on the once controversial Elway Theorem..
Once shelved by Federation scientist due to the dangers connected with it, the technology has since been quietly refined by scientists working for the Intelligence Services. Overtly, such an immense breakthrough would not be exclusive to the Federation alone, as the Romulans and probably Cardassians would obtain the technology via their respective intelligence organisations soon after. Maintaining such a discrete existence as they do, Section 31 has successfully protected this system, and hence kept the upper hand in their covert operations, as operatives can invariably transport great distances at will, and undetected.
