The Mercury's were a run of the mill mid range Light Cruiser, but usually designated as a Surveyor. They were fairly large by comparison to the Daedalus Class, but the problem with this class vessel was its extreme sluggishness, and cumbersome manoeuvrability at impulse. Starfleet were at this time still a few years away from perfecting refinements to sub light propulsion, and in a way the Mercury Class was a thundering behemoth, though it did excel in defence. With a maximum cruise velocity of warp 4.6, state of the art phase cannons and basic, but effective Fusion missiles, these vessel's did enjoy some superiority over early Klingon and Romulan encounters, and lasted the fair duration of more than half a century of service. That figure in a way deceives, as nearly all were decommissioned or lost in the line of duty by 2215, but five continued to operate under more minor fleet profiles for a further twenty years until the last one was scrapped. The 16 constructed are detailed here.

-The design at the top here is really ancient, done before I even started playing with 3D. So if ever I got round to redesigning it it will be quite different, possibly a blend of this, plus some NX design features. In fact the design above could well be reused as a speculative Daedalus refit.
KEY
O= Operational
OR= Operational after Refit or Repairs
DD= In Drydock for repairs or refit *
T= Training Vessel
U= Under construction prior to preliminary trials
D= Destroyed
Sc= Scrapped or Decommissioned
PD= Presumed Destroyed
M= Missing
*A ship would visit drydock for many reasons, including refits, repairs, servicing upgrades, preliminary trials and testing of new components, and spacedock for similar reasons, as well as crew rotation, reassignment, prep period before redeployment, and so forth.
As this class is only of my own speculation, all specs and stats appearing here are hypothetical. The explanations about this data, such as ship designations, weapons, offensive power etc, see Spec Definitions.
