Another new class starship that after commissioning was a designated as a standard Medium Cruiser. The oddity here was that during the class' embryonic stage of construction, there existed two slightly different prototypes that were built side by side at Utopia Planitia Yards, at Mars in the Sol system. One being the 'Orion', and the other the 'Blue Star '. Out of the initial twelve vessels that followed the two prototypes, 7 were of one kind, Type A, and 4 of the other, Type B. The two types co-exist with identical field applications, and the two variants differ only in that Type B has nacelles 5 metres longer, and has an additional sub-deck (to accommodate a slight warp core modification). But a major difference was the first applications of Quantum Torpedoes on Federation ships installed into Type B. Their success paved the way for a great improvement in over all defence, fleet wide.

*A ship would visit drydock for many reasons, including refits, repairs, servicing upgrades, preliminary trials and testing of new components, and spacedock for similar reasons, as well as crew rotation, reassignment, prep period before redeployment, and so forth.
As this class is only of my own speculation, all specs and stats appearing here are hypothetical. The explanations about this data, such as ship designations, weapons, offensive power etc, see Spec Definitions.
