A smaller starship design, with a planned designation of short-range exploration and scientific ops. Many more are planned, indeed, this class may well end up replacing the entire long-serving Oberth Fleet, and be the torchbearer for scientific and planetary research and charting going into the 25th Century... A few are detailed.

Footnote *

-This class ship was first seen in Voyager's 'Equinox' two parter. It was so stated that the vessel was primarily a science vessel / surveyor; was short range; had limited weaponry and was confined to only Warp 8. The second ship of this class was seen 16 years into the future - USS Rhode Island, commanded by Captain Harry Kim. It seemed to be a slightly beefed up and more powerful variant of Nova Class, but was of this class.

-This class name also existed on my old speculative list before coming into being on the Voyager episode 'Equinox'.

KEY

O= Operational
OR= Operational after Refit or Repairs
DD= In Drydock for repairs or refit *
T= Training Vessel
U= Under construction prior to preliminary trials
D= Destroyed
Sc= Scrapped or Decommissioned
PD= Presumed Destroyed
M= Missing

*A ship would visit drydock for many reasons, including refits, repairs, servicing upgrades, preliminary trials and testing of new components, and spacedock for similar reasons, as well as crew rotation, reassignment, prep period before redeployment, and so forth.

The listed specifications for ship classes are partly hypothetical, but some data such as ship lengths, weapon stats and crew complements are in some cases canon. For an explanation on the specs, and what the Ship designations mean, see Spec Definitions.
