(My 3D model, as seen here)
Actual studio model which was used in the graveyard scene at Wolf 359 -Note, the official first commissioning of this class is not known, for the above model has only been seen from a distance in the 'Best of Both Worlds' graveyard scene, and then only barely. It is quite possible this class is older than the date I give below. Though the registry of the Ahwahnee suggests a more recent commission date.
Many thanks to Bernd for this pic...

Initially built in fair numbers, this starship class hails from the Constellation design lineage and is designated as a Destroyer. Currently a second batch of Cheyennes are planned which will take place alongside the refits of existing starships in the class which will eventually bolster the Cheyenne fleet by more than thirty additional ships. Production of the 2377 refit was halted though to allow slight redesign and construction in areas of defence, specifically shields and re-enforced hull armour, but has resumed in recent months.

Footnote *
-The Ahwahnee seems to have a problem with duel registry numbers. It has been attributed to be both NCC 71620, and NCC 73620.
-This class of ship existed on my a speculative list from years ago, but now of course it's officially established!

*A ship would visit drydock for many reasons, including refits, repairs, servicing upgrades, preliminary trials and testing of new components, and spacedock for similar reasons, as well as crew rotation, reassignment, prep period before redeployment, and so forth.
The listed specifications for ship classes are partly hypothetical, but some data such as ship lengths, weapon stats and crew complements are in some cases canon. For an explanation on the specs, and what the Ship designations mean, see Spec Definitions.
