An unusual type of starship which is rarely seen, as it is virtually never deployed in peace time. During the Cardassian wars of the early-to-mid twenty fourth century the need for Fighter Squadrons on the front line became ever more necessary. As Fighters were not capable of high warp speeds, and are limited to only short range deployments, plans were put into motion to create a Carrier type starship, capable of transporting and provisioning entire Fighter squadrons, and bringing them, at speed, to where they were most needed. During Excelsior refit and upgrade programs of the early 2330's various decommissioned Excelsiors were requisitioned, stripped, restructured and modified to serve as Carriers. Christened Curry Class, these partial Thru-Deck Cruisers employed multi-tiered aft Fighter launch bays, and in combat, the Currys became extremely efficient at delivering Fighter support, and this has been noted in many keys battles, involving Cardassian, Klingon and Dominion campaigns.

Footnote *
- My description of the Curry Class is entirely speculative. It is not known what special purpose, if any, the Currys possess.
- There is no doubt this is a canon ship, and more than one has been identified on screen, beyond reasonable shadow of a doubt. The current model photo pictures we possess are of the Raging Queen, which portray quite different battle damage to the Curry Class ship we see on screen in 'A Time To Stand'. This is yet further evidence that this is a class of ship, and was mass produced, at least to some level.
- I refuse to acknowledge the name 'Raging Queen' here. Such a nomenclature for a Federation starship is ludicrous. It is in fact a studio joke, a homage to a reference from Saturday Night Live. That name though does not appear on DS9 at any time, and the model was probebly not filmed with that name attached - it's been suggested, most plausibly, that the name (without USS prefix) was added after filming, and only meant as a joke. It was at that point the model was photographed.
- Beyond the argument that this is a class of ship, there is of course doubt that this is actualy called 'Curry Class'. The class name could be entirely different. But for convenience sake, that's what I've called it here for now.

*A ship would visit drydock for many reasons, including refits, repairs, servicing upgrades, preliminary trials and testing of new components, and spacedock for similar reasons, as well as crew rotation, reassignment, prep period before redeployment, and so forth.
The listed specifications for ship classes are partly hypothetical, but some data such as ship lengths, weapon stats and crew complements are in some cases canon. For an explanation on the specs, and what the Ship designations mean, see Spec Definitions.
