Footnote:

-The reality of this class of ship existing in some shape or form in the Star Trek universe cannot really be questioned due to the appearance of both the Saladin/Hermes Classes and the Ptolemy appearing on computer screen readouts in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. I've split the picture (towards the top of the page) into three separate captures. Two show the Saladin from two angles, the third is the Ptolemy at the bottom.

-The Ptolemy was designed by Franz Joseph and features in the Starfleet Technical Manual.

-The 'virtually' already accepted and known registry of one of these ships, as seen in the schematic, is NCC-3801. This a late 23rd century time frame, although the design of this starship, and the almost identical family design to the Saladin (which has a much lower registry) has prompted me to place this class of ship in the early 23rd century - 2212. The NCC-3801 ship could well be a later batch Ptolemy from no earlier than the 2270's, although her more antiquated design challenges this.

KEY

O= Operational
OR= Operational after Refit or Repairs
DD= In Drydock for repairs or refit *
T= Training Vessel
U= Under construction prior to preliminary trials
D= Destroyed
Sc= Scrapped or Decommissioned
PD= Presumed Destroyed
M= Missing

*A ship would visit drydock for many reasons, including refits, repairs, servicing upgrades, preliminary trials and testing of new components, and spacedock for similar reasons, as well as crew rotation, reassignment, prep period before redeployment, and so forth.

The listed specifications for ship classes are partly hypothetical, but some data such as ship lengths, weapon stats and crew complements are in some cases canon. For an explanation on the specs, and what the Ship designations mean, see Spec Definitions.
