SCREENCAP ANALYSES

page 2

These images were taken from fleet movements and engagements in the DS9 episode 'A Time To Stand'. There are a number of oddities here, most notable the now infamous Curry-Type starship.

'A TIME TO STAND'

THE CURRY

This first picture shows the initial fleet flyby. In the bottom left hand corner is an Akira Class, with the Defiant above it.

This shows an Excelsior being tugged by an unknown ship-type, perhaps a standard Federation Tug, built, one assumes, with a combination of parts from various kits... There is also a theory that it maybe a Klingon ship, helping the Federation out by tugging one of their ships! Also in the scene is a Klingon Battlecruiser, and on the left are regular Peregrine fighters.

On the bottom right of this image is the much loathed Curry-type configuration. See some more information and model photos of this ship on the Class Variants page.

This is a close-up image of some of the ships in the background. Other than number 3., being a K'tinga class Klingon Battlecruiser, the others remain too obscure to make out, although 2. is probably a Miranda, and 1. is the other Curry-Type starship, the Raging Queen...

THE CENTAUR

These remaining pictures show the USS Centaur, again from 'A Time to Stand'. This peculiar Excelsior kitbash is in fact rather attractive, and very majestic in action. Some people have speculated whether this could be an actual class, not a one-off Starfleet kitbash. Renaissance Class as a possibility has been passed around fandom, so has Chimera Class. Where some are ready to accept this, others have thrown the theory out entirely, as it doesn't match up with information given in the DS9 Technical Manual, which says this is only classified as a one-off Excelsior/Ambassador variant.

In my view, the case is far from closed.... for it would be nice to give one of the 'name only classes' an official design at last. And I like the Centaur! I think there's enough about it to warrant individuality of design/hull components and character, which in my view could be sufficient to constitute a class unto itself. I would like to think the Centaur-type ship went into full production and has its own class name. (For model photos go here).

ANOTHER APPEARANCE

The Centaur has made at least one further appearance in DS9, in the background though. Here's such a cameo of the Centaur (or other Centaur-type ship), circling Starbase 375 from the episode 'Behind The Lines'. Notice it in the bottom right hand corner?
