SCREENCAP ANALYSES

This section has been newly updated, and will continue to do as and when new information becomes available. Research of the sometimes scant onscreen evidence is always going to be a continuing process. Anyway... Here I pick apart some mystery screencap images of various scenes from various episodes.

Screencap Analysis Page 1 - Qualor II Surplus Depot from TNG's 'Unification'.

Here we investigate some of the wrecks present at the Federation's Surplus Depot at Qualor II, which the Enterprise visited in the fith season episode 'Unification'. As you will see there are several recognisable wrecks here, first spotted in the Wolf 359 graveyard scene. But there's some new stuff here we've never seen before, such as models of the Excelsior prototypes, and the old Star Trek: Phase II Enterprise proposal...

Screencap Analysis Page 2 - The Fleet Flyby of DS9's 'A Time To Stand'

On this page we detail some curious ships, such as two 'Curry Class' ships, and a previously unknown Tug. These ships participated in the battle-weary fleet flyby in DS9's 'A Time To Stand'. Some quite unorthodox designs were applied to these models - photos and a further investigation of which can be found here. Also on the page is some close up captures of an unknown class of ship, known simply here as the Centaur. Again, photos and a further analysis here

Screencap Analysis Page 3 - Wolf 359 Graveyard Scene from TNG's 'The Best of Both Worlds'.

Perhaps the most famous, most studied and conjectured sequence of the Next Generation that has done the round over and over again, is the graveyard scene of Wolf 359. Thanks to some excellent new DVD captures (donated by Nick Angeloni) I am able to make use of these significantly superior images to facilitate an almost new analysis altogether. These much finer quality captures, much clearer than than those available before, have provided new insight on previous question marks, and have enabled two ships, the Ahwahnee and Chekov, to be finally, officially, identified. Also these shots included much wider canvases than we saw on a 4:3 TV screen - all this adds up to some very interesting stuff....

Screencap Analysis Page 4 - Analysing and Counting the Ships of 'Star Trek: First Contact'.

ST-first_con008.jpg (77986 bytes)

I always wondered precisely how many Akira Class ships appeared in this battle, and how many Steamrunners, Sabres and Norways there were. Well now here's an answer at last, and surprising it was too. In the eleven captured images I've pinpointed and labelled the separate appearances of all the ships I can identify (mostly ignoring the occasional Miranda etc). Some I've spotted as duplicate sightings, ie the same ship that was seen earlier but now in a different position. It was a tough challenge, but I think the analysis at the conclusion speaks for itself...

The 'Wolf 359 Ships' Close Up

With the new images of the Wolf 359 ships I've made some blow-ups and enhanced them. With my CGI model equivalents I've rendered some quick pictures with matching positions/attitudes so we can finally decide, and put to rest, the identities of the more questionable classes of ship, and we can also get a glimpse of what they might have looked like without the sometimes extensive battle damage.
